rTMS Treatment
A different path to relief, when other treatments haven't worked.
rTMS is a non-invasive, drug-free treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate the areas of the brain linked to mood regulation, for people who have tried therapy and medication without getting the relief they hoped for.
What rTMS actually is
A coil sits against your head and sends gentle magnetic pulses into specific brain circuits. There's no surgery, no sedation and no downtime. It isn't a drug, and it doesn't involve anaesthetic of any kind. You sit in a chair for the session, then carry on with your day. Over a course of treatment, circuits that have gone quiet start working the way they should.
Most clients who ask about rTMS have already done the rounds: therapy, then medication, then a different medication, then adjustments. Some find something that holds. Plenty don't, and walk away believing they've used up their options. They haven't. rTMS approaches the same problem from a completely different direction, and for the people it works for, it isn't symptom management. It's a genuine alternative pathway.
Trained and certified by the Academy of Brain Stimulation
Janet trained as an rTMS practitioner through the Academy of Brain Stimulation (AoBS), an institution that specialises in transcranial magnetic stimulation education internationally. The course covered patient screening, protocol design, and how to deliver treatment safely: theory backed by rigorous practical assessment.
“For a lot of people who've tried therapy and medication without getting real relief, rTMS opens up an option they didn't know existed.”
Hands-on training with Naya Health, London
That certification was followed by further hands-on practicals delivered in Kenya by specialists from Naya Health, a London-based neuroplasticity clinic. The training covered the full client journey from intake to discharge, and the technical parameters behind every session: frequency, intensity, train duration and coil placement.
One practical session became the most instructive of all: the group couldn't immediately locate a client's motor threshold, the baseline intensity measurement that sets the dose for every pulse that follows. Rather than swap in an easier case, the trainers worked the group through the troubleshooting in real time: what to check first, what to change next, and how to keep the person in the chair reassured while the search continued. What to expect
An initial conversation and screening to confirm rTMS is an appropriate option for you.
Your individual motor threshold is measured to set a safe, effective treatment intensity.
Sessions take place in a comfortable chair, with no sedation, no downtime, and back to your day after.
Progress is reviewed together across the course of treatment and adjusted as needed.
Ongoing support to sustain the changes you've worked toward.
Where treatment happens
Janet delivers rTMS treatment at Jivan Wellness in Nairobi, guiding clients through the entire journey (from initial assessment to aftercare) with the same care and attention she brings to her work as a psychologist.
